Last night Dona and I watched an outstanding PBS special about Joel Sartore who is a professional photographer from Lincoln Nebraska and who photographs primarily for National Geographic Magazine.
Since the Quimby/Gishwiller clan is from Nebraska and lived in Lincoln for many of our years, there was an Immediate interest in the program.
Sartore's photography is truly outstanding, but of equal importance is his awareness and attitude toward the subjects he is shooting. His photo journalism has done much to bring an awareness to the National Geographic readership concerning effects of the human factor on the world we all live in. While he has a tremendous concern for the condition of mother earth, he isn't obnoxious or overly preachy about it. As he says; he is a reporter of the condition and his readers have to make their own decisions about how they will respond to the report!
Often shows of this caliber are aired in multiple times slots. If you get a chance, we highly recommend that you see the 1 hour special entitled "At Close Range With National Geographic" See Link: http://www.pbs.org/atcloserange/links.html
There are two other Links concerning this subject that I recommend;
Joe Sortore's Cover Story from National Geographic, May 2006 on Alaska's North Slope
