This past summer Dona, Ron and Miles took a weekend trip to the Baraboo, WI area to visit Circus World. While we were there we spent a rainy morning at the International Crane Foundation.
We were able to observe a pair of Whooping Cranes with a chick. This was not one of the chicks that would migrate to Florida, but who would spend its life in captivity at Baraboo.
We were saddened earlier this month when we heard of the unfortunate deaths of 17 of the 18 Whoopers during the terrible storms that hit central Florida. This group of 18 cranes were the latest flock to be led in migration by an International Crane Foundation pilot in an ultra light aircraft.
Below are two pictures from our trip; 1) Miles dressed in one of the outfits that the caretakers use to assure that the cranes do not imprint with humans. 2) The Whooping Crane chick that we were able to observe in a special viewing area.
We would highly recommend a trip to the International Crane Foundation if you travel to central Wisconsin. See Link: http://www.savingcranes.org/
