We decided to try to find some local Oregon fruit to prepare a salad worthy of Jean and Gary when they arrive this evening. It would be an hour and a half up the Gorge to get to the local orchards, so we decided to try New Seasons. Sort of a Whole Foods Jr. experience and a little bit like a Fresh Thyme store in the Milwaukee area.
I'm not sure we are "Oregon Green" enough to shop at New Seasons, but luckily we did have enough money to get back out the door when we were done. Hopefully, the local tomatoes and peaches will be good enough to make our trip worth it.
We were able to save some money by shopping in the bulk foods section. Slivered almonds, organic Oregon Honey and unfiltered cider vinegar. And we were able to find some wine with "no added sulfites". Not always an easy task.
Stay tuned for more information after Jean and Gary arrive later today.
